For you, if you already know you want to learn to produce music

How to go from opening Ableton with no damn clue what to do to finishing your first song in 10 days

Even if you're starting from zero right now, don't know any music theory, don't play an instrument, and Ableton looks like a freaking spaceship to you.

315 students have already been through this process Record: 2 days 20–30 min a day

Shuriken Challenge

10 days. 10 steps. One song.

Regular price: $147

$57

1 year of access 10 days of support You can start from zero

It all starts here

You open Ableton and it looks like a spaceship.

Tracks, instruments, effects, buttons, windows everywhere.

And since you don't know yet what you actually need for your first song and what you can ignore, you do the most logical thing: try to learn before you create.

Ableton.

Theory.

Chords.

Mixing.

Plugins.

And none of that is useless.

You just don't need all of it yet.

That's where what I call the DAW War begins.

You can spend weeks, even months, learning production without ever finishing a single song.

You're not building a rocket.

You're making your first song. And for that you need way fewer things than you think right now.

It took me years to figure that out.

I wanted to learn to produce when I was 15. I'd install the software, try to understand everything, get overwhelmed and end up quitting.

Until I asked for help and finished my first song.

Then I thought:

  • Did I need to know every button in Ableton? No.
  • Did I need to know how to play piano or guitar? No.
  • Did I need to master all of music theory? Nope.

The usual path

  • 01Learn first
  • 02Create later
VS

The Shuriken path

  • 01Start by creating
  • 02Learn what I need
  • 03Finish

To make your first song, you need to learn what that first song needs.

From a blank screen to your first song

Days 1–3

Setup

You install Ableton and learn only what you need to start moving around and creating.

Days 4–7

Creation

Chords. Sounds. Drums. Melody. Each element kept simple, without going deep where it doesn't belong yet.

Days 8–10

Wrap-up

You arrange, structure, tweak and export. Then you run through the process again.

10 days. 10 steps. One song.

It's already happening for people who started exactly where you are

Amaia

She came from music school and had taken “a thousand courses” without ever finishing a track. With this process she finished one in 10 days.

Amaia's message, in Spanish: I took a thousand courses and never finished a track; I joined Shuriken and finished it in 10 days

María

She joined thinking she might not have the time. Two days later she was already showing me how it was turning into a song.

María's message, in Spanish, about her progress in the challenge

Alfonso

He started with Ableton's free trial. He finished his first song and ended up releasing it on Beatport, Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music.

Alfonso's message, in Spanish: he finished Shuriken while producing his first track, using only the Ableton trial, and released it on Beatport, Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music

These are real messages from students of the Spanish edition of the challenge. That's why they're in Spanish.

And best of all, you can hear it.

Shuriken is for you if…

It's for you if…

  • You already know you want to learn, even if you're starting from zero.
  • You can make 20–30 min a day a priority for 10 days.
  • When a problem shows up, you try to understand it before throwing in the towel.
  • You accept that your first song will have things to improve.
  • You want to start making music.

It's not for you if…

  • You buy stuff “just in case, someday”.
  • You're just testing the waters to see if you even like producing.
  • You're not going to make the daily session a priority.
  • You need someone chasing after you.

If that's you, I'd rather you didn't buy.

“Okay, Kuoka. So why the hell is it so cheap?”

Because Shuriken isn't where I want to make the most money from you.

It's our first step together.

I want you to finish your first song, see how I work, and I want to see how you work.

After that I have more advanced programs like Beatmaker Method, where I work much more closely with students for months. Before that, I'd rather we've actually worked together.

I want to see if you put in the work; if, when you get stuck, you try to solve it first instead of playing the victim, and if you still can't move forward, you ask.

If we're a good fit and you want to keep going, we'll talk about the next level.

And if not, that's totally fine: you walk away with your first song and a process you can reuse on your own.

Do your part. If the process doesn't work, the risk is on me.

Every day you have one specific goal to hit.

Watching the video doesn't count. Checking off the lesson doesn't either. You have to hit the day's goal and turn in your submission.

If you get stuck, you try to fix it yourself first. If you still can't move forward, you message us.

If for 10 days you hit your goals, turn in your submissions and use the support when it makes sense, and you still don't finish and export your song:

I'll refund 100%

I bring the path and the support.
You complete every step.

What people always ask me

What if I've never produced anything?

Perfect. It's designed for starting from zero.

Is it in English?

Yes. The lessons, the materials and the support are in English.

Do I have to buy Ableton?

No. You can use the free trial.

How much time do I need?

Around 20–30 minutes a day.

Will I be producing like a pro in 10 days?

No. It'd be ridiculous to promise that. The goal is to finish your first one.

What if I can't start right now?

Can you really not start, or are you waiting for the perfect moment?

That moment usually never comes.

If you join, I want Shuriken to be a real priority. You have up to 7 days from your purchase to get started; after that, your 10 days begin.

If you know you won't find 20–30 minutes a day, we're not a match, and you're better off not buying.

If you're waiting until you “have more time”, “feel more inspired” or “have a quieter week”: that's exactly what I want you to stop doing.

10 days from now, a song that doesn't exist today could exist.

A song made by you.

You don't need to learn more before you start.

You need to start.
